We (NSI) have been experiencing some issues at the Melford Hazel Sport Center for some time now, whereby a set of unruly/anti-social youngsters from the neighborhood, causes havoc and threaten our coordinator on duty. On numerous occasions, the police had to intervene at this facility.
It came to a boiling point on Monday (27-3-2023) evening after the High School Volleyball tournament whereby the students were attacked by these unruly/antisocial youngsters from that area, with the result that a student got hit with a rock in her face, and received a cut under her eyes. They then proceeded to throw rocks at the vehicles, resulting in damages to 2 vehicles. The police department is currently investigating the matter.
Due to the above, we have decided to close the Melford Hazel until further notice to guarantee the safety of our clients and our coordinator. As we no longer can put the lives of our clients or coordinators at risk.
The Department of Sports has been notified of the incident and our decision. The closure will persist until the police investigation has concluded and a solution for this matter can be found. We (management) will monitor the situation closely and keep you informed.
